Draft and Final

StatusMeaningWhat you can do next
Draft (Чернова)The working version. Dates, dependencies and structure can be changed freely.Edit, report progress, Lock (or Publish on a master schedule).
Final (Финална)A locked, frozen baseline. Its plan never changes again.Report progress; view it; compare it with BORO; start a new draft by making a change and confirming Create draft.

Version numbers belong to one schedule, and each BoQ version has its own schedule, so the offer and the budget each count their own versions 1, 2, 3… Editing a draft does not create a version. The number grows when a final version is reopened as a new draft.

How to lock a version

  1. Open the construction schedule on the current version.
  2. Click Lock (Заключи) in the toolbar (on a master schedule the button reads Publish — see below).
  3. Read the confirmation Lock schedule (Заключване на графика): "This version will be locked and cannot be edited. Your changes will be saved." If no row has dates yet, the message starts with "The schedule has no dates set. You can still lock it, but the version will be empty."
  4. Click Lock (Заключи). The toast "Schedule locked." (Графикът е заключен.) confirms it. Cancel (Отказ) leaves the draft as it is.

Publish instead of Lock on a master schedule

A schedule created by the company that created the project is a master schedule. On it the same action is labeled Publish (Публикувай), the dialog is Publish schedule (Публикуване на графика) and says "This version will be locked and sent as a slice to all contractors with an active contract. Your changes will be saved." Publishing locks the version exactly like Lock and in addition sends each subcontractor with a signed contract a read-only slice. See Publishing to subcontractors (slices).

How to change a locked schedule

  1. Make the change you want on the current final version: move a bar, edit a date or a dependency, or open Schedule structure.
  2. The dialog Edit final version (Редактиране на финална версия) asks: "This version is final. Would you like to create a new draft?"
  3. Click Create draft (Създай чернова). The toast "A new draft has been created." (Създадена е нова чернова.) appears, a new version starts from the locked content, and your change is applied to it. Cancel leaves the final version untouched and discards the change.

  1. The dialog Edit final version (Редактиране на финална версия), shown here after a start date was edited.
  2. Create draft (Създай чернова) opens a new draft and applies the change.

Reporting progress is the exception: entering % Done on a final version does not open this dialog and does not create a draft. Progress is a separate journal that keeps flowing while the plan is frozen. See Reporting progress.

The history panel

Click History (История, clock icon) to open Schedule history (История на графика). The panel says: "Each BOQ version has its own schedule with its own version history." It groups schedules by BoQ version ("BOQ version {v}" / "КСС версия {v}") and lists the Schedule versions (Версии на графика) of each.

  • Each entry shows "Version {n}" and a status pill Draft or Final.
  • The version you are looking at is tagged Viewing (Преглеждате).
  • View (Виж) opens a version read-only.
  • A carried-over schedule shows where it came from: "Carried over from BOQ version {kssVersion}, Version {scheduleVersion}".
  • Schedules of older BoQ versions can offer Carry forward to current version (Пренеси към текущата версия).

  2. An earlier version marked Final (Финална), with the View (Виж) button.

How to view an older version

  1. Open History and click View (Виж) on the version.
  2. The Gantt shows the structure and dates of that version, read-only. Progress is shown as it was reported up to that version.
  3. While viewing, Lock, Reports, Export to MS Project (.xml) are hidden and Schedule structure is disabled, because those always work on the current version.
  4. Click ← Back to current (← Към текуща) to return to the live schedule.

How to carry an older schedule into the current one

Use this when the current BoQ version's schedule was started empty or from scratch and you want the work of an earlier BoQ version's schedule back.

  1. Open the current schedule (not an older version) while it is an unlocked draft. The option is not offered on a final version.
  2. Open History and find the schedule of the older BoQ version.
  3. Click Carry forward to current version (Пренеси към текущата версия).
  4. Confirm Carry this version into the current schedule?: "This replaces the current schedule with the work from the selected version, updated to the current BOQ. New BOQ tasks come in unscheduled; tasks no longer in the BOQ are dropped. Continue?" Click Carry forward (Пренеси).
  5. The summary Schedule carried forward (Графикът е пренесен) lists "{n} tasks rescaled — progress kept", "{n} new BOQ tasks need scheduling", "{n} tasks removed (no longer in the BOQ)" and "{n} dependencies dropped", or "No structural differences — your schedule carried over as-is." Click Got it (Разбрах).

Carry forward differs from Carry Over from Previous Version in the create dialog: that option starts a brand-new schedule for a new BoQ version; carry forward overwrites a schedule that already exists. See Creating a schedule.

Comparing versions

There is no compare screen for your own schedule. Ask BORO instead, for example "What slipped since the last locked version?" or "Compare version 2 with the current draft." BORO lists:

  • BoQ-linked tasks added or removed between the two versions;
  • tasks whose start, end or duration changed, with the old and new values;
  • dependencies added, removed or changed (type and lag).

BORO can also list the version timeline with author, date and the BoQ version each version belongs to, lock the schedule, reopen it as a new draft, or carry an older schedule forward. In the BORO panel every change goes through an approval card by default. See What BORO can do.

A subcontractor can ask BORO the same question about the versions of its slice. See Publishing to subcontractors (slices).

Common questions

Can I unlock a locked version?

No. A final version stays frozen. Make a change and confirm Create draft; the new draft starts from the locked content.

Why don't I see the Lock button?

The current version is already final, you are viewing an older version, or the schedule is still loading. On a master schedule the button is called Publish.

Why did a dialog ask me to create a draft when I moved a bar?

The current version is final. Any plan change needs a new draft. Reporting progress does not.

Why is "Carry forward to current version" missing?

It is offered only for schedules of older BoQ versions, only while you view the live schedule, and only when the current version is an unlocked draft.

Why are Reports and Export hidden on an older version?

Reports and exports always use the current version. Return with ← Back to current.

How do I see what changed between two baselines?

Ask BORO to compare the two version numbers. It lists added, removed and moved tasks and changed dependencies.

Does locking stop progress reporting?

No. Progress can be reported on a final version at any time.
