How templates and price history work

A task template does not hold a price by itself. It links positions in different BoQs that are the same kind of work. Each time a position linked to the template gets a unit price above 0, that priced analysis becomes an entry in the template's history: date, description, project, BoQ, unit price and note. Different technologies, suppliers or price levels simply appear as different history entries, so you choose the one that fits the new job.

  • Assigning a template to a position does not change its resources or price. It only links the position so that its history can be reused and so that this position joins the history.
  • Applying a history entry does change the position: it copies that analysis onto it.
  • The same name may exist with different units (for example "Concrete C25/30" in m³ and in m²); search results always show the unit.
  • Templates are managed in the company library: rename, change the unit, delete and merge duplicates. See Company library (nomenclatures).

The Analysis template section

The section Analysis template (Шаблон на анализа) appears in the resource analysis panel when exactly one position is ticked, the panel is editable and the analysis has loaded. It has two states.

No template assigned yet

  • Create template (Създай шаблон) — creates a new company template from this position and links it.
  • Choose a template (Изберете шаблон) — searches existing templates (top 5 results).
  • A BORO suggestion card, when BuildColab finds a strong match: the BORO avatar, the template name, and "{percent}% match" or "Used {count} times", with the buttons History (История) and Apply template (Приложи шаблон).

Template assigned

The card shows the template name and three buttons: History (opens the price history), the pencil (switch to another template) and the red bin (unassign the template).

How to create a template from a position

  1. In the BoQ editor, tick the position. The resource analysis panel opens.
  2. In Analysis template, click Create template (Създай шаблон).
  3. The dialog Create nomenclature (Създай номенклатура) is pre-filled with the position's description and unit. Adjust them if the template should be more general (for example remove the floor number).
  4. Click Create (Създай).

The template is added to the company library and linked to this position: "The task template was created successfully". A template with the same name and unit already in the library gives "This name already exists in the company"; choose the existing one instead.

How to assign an existing template

  1. In the resource analysis panel of the position, click Choose a template (Изберете шаблон).
  2. Type part of the name. Up to 5 results appear, each with its unit. A suggestion, if there is one, is pinned first with "{percent}% match" or "Used {count} times".
  3. Pick a result and click the green save button (✗ cancels).

Toasts: "Assigning template..." then "The template was assigned successfully" (Шаблонът беше назначен успешно). The resources and price of the position do not change. To switch templates later, click the pencil; to unlink, click the red bin — there is no confirmation, and unlinking does not change the resources or the price either.

Automatic suggestions

When your company has the library feature, BuildColab looks for the template most similar to the position and shows it as a BORO suggestion only if:

  • it was already used for this same work before (a history match, shown as "Used {count} times"), or
  • the meaning of the names matches at 90% or more (shown as "{percent}% match").

The comparison is semantic: it understands similar wording, swapped words and singular/plural. When a suggestion exists and no template is assigned, the history panel opens automatically and previews the newest historical analysis; its price carries an "AI" badge. Click Apply template to link the suggestion, or choose or create another template. On the Free plan, or for an unlicensed seat, no suggestions are requested.

The template history panel

Click History (История) on the template card or the suggestion. The panel Template history (История на шаблона) opens to the left of the resource analysis panel (on a narrow screen it covers the screen; close it with ×, Esc or by clicking outside). It lists earlier priced positions that used this template in any project of your company:

  • newest first, 20 at a time, more load as you scroll;
  • only positions with a unit price above 0; the current position is excluded;
  • each entry shows date and time, Description, the project, BoQ: {name}, Unit price and Note. If the other project uses a different currency, the price is shown converted to this project's currency as well.

Empty states: "No related projects available" when the template has no priced uses yet, "No data to show" without a template.

How to apply an analysis from the history

  1. In the template history panel, click an entry (or press Enter or Space). It is highlighted, and the resource analysis panel shows a read-only preview of that historical analysis — its resources, percentages and unit price.
  2. Compare it with what you need. Click another entry to preview it instead; click the same entry or Deselect (Размаркирай) to end the preview.
  3. Click Apply (Приложи). If the BoQ version is locked, confirm the New version warning.
  4. If the historical analysis has a note, the dialog Apply resource analysis (Прилагане на ресурсен анализ) asks what to do with it: Don't use the note from the template, Merge the current note with the note from the template or Use. Click Next (Напред).
  5. If the resulting description and note match another position in the BoQ that is priced differently, the dialog Pricing conflict (Конфликт при ценообразуване) asks "Which pricing do you want to keep?" — Modified work item or Existing work item — then Merge tasks.

On success: "The analysis was applied successfully" (Анализът е приложен успешно). If no template was assigned and you applied from a suggestion, the suggested template is assigned first.

Templates in other places

  • Add work item dialog in the BoQ editor — typing a description shows up to 6 matching templates; picking one fills the description and unit. See Working in the BoQ editor.
  • Import with analyses — each imported task is matched to an existing template (by history or at least 90% similarity) or gets a new one. See Importing a BoQ from Excel.
  • Nomenclatures page, tab Work items — create, rename, delete templates and merge duplicates with Clear duplicates (Изчисти дубликати), which keeps the merged templates' history.

BORO and templates

BORO can suggest templates for a position, assign or unassign them, read a template's price history and apply historical analyses to up to 15 positions at once, deciding the note as use, merge or skip. It can also find duplicate templates and merge them. In the BORO panel each change waits for your approval by default (a company can set a tool to run without approval); AI tools connected through MCP show no approval card and, with write access, apply changes immediately. See What BORO can do.

Common questions

Why don't I see the Analysis template section?

It is shown only when exactly one position is ticked, the panel is editable (latest version, Edit permission) and the analysis has loaded. It is hidden in the Report of several positions and on old versions.

Why does BORO not suggest any template?

A suggestion appears only for a history match or a semantic match of at least 90%. Your company may also be on the Free plan, or your seat may be unlicensed, in which case suggestions are off.

I assigned a template but the price did not change. Why?

Assigning only links the position to the template. To take a price, open History, preview an entry and click Apply.

No other position linked to this template has a unit price above 0 yet. Price this position; next time it will appear in the history.

The history shows two prices for one entry. Why?

The entry comes from a project in another currency. The second, smaller figure is the price converted to the current project's currency.

Can I undo "Apply"?

No. Applying replaces the analysis. Read the earlier analysis from a locked version in History and enter it again if needed.

Why does "This name already exists in the company" appear?

A template with the same name and unit is already in the library. Use Choose a template to link the existing one.

Who can see my template history?

Members of your company with access to the resource analysis. The history covers your company's own projects only.
